Shading

Today in class we were practicing shading concept work using are pro markers (cool grey 1, 2 and 4) and using pastels (not oil). I found it difficult at first as I am used to pencil shading but in the end I got the hang of it. I preferred using the pastels as i thought they were smoother and produced better shading.

House

In last week tutorial we made a house. We started by using lines to create a schematic view of the house and then using extrude we made the walls. Then converting the walls into a poly we selected the individual gaps in the wall to make door ways and using quick slice we marked out the size and location of the windows.

I then went on to create a new floor by making a copy of the existing floor and placing it on top of the other. I then want in to make a roof using a pyramid and edited the objects points to alter its shape. Just to add a little bit extra i added a balcony to the side of the house.

I finally textured my house to show that I could add textures and to make the house look more real.

Moblie

Our homework for this week was to create a mobile phone on 3D max. I found this quite interesting as we made both the front and the back of the phone using the mirror tool and creating each individual part  of the phone, such as the LCD screen. I had a problems selecting the holes for the button and trying to smooth them but I still worked on.

Mouse

This week in our tutorial class for 3D we created a the basic shape of a mouse for the computer. By taking a geometric shape and altering its object points we created a new shape. I found this to be quite interesting and will be beneficial for me to know this. Another may to make the mouse more realistic we used other shapes placed on top of the mouse and using pro Boolean we cut a hole in the bottom of the mouse for the ball of a mouse. For next week we must use the skills we learned to create a mobile phone which i know will be challenging but worth it.

Measurements

Our first class of Introduction to 3D introduced me to the materials and software needed as well as allowing me to see some of the interesting projects that are lecturer Justin Magee himself has done over the course of his career.

Our second week involved us getting into groups and taking each others measurements. This is for us to create a 1:5 scale CAD drawing of ourselves in order for us to edit a 3D Max file of a 2D manikin. I am indeed looking forward to seeing how I look in 2D but also I get to develop my skills in 3D Max.

Using the measurements from our previous class and using 3DS max I manipulated a 2D manikin to match the measurements of myself.
